Welcome to the third installment of In Case You Missed It, a weekly news roundup that focuses on some of the biggest news stories from around the globe every week. So, in case you missed it, here’s your week in review:

Philando Castile Trial

Officer Jeronimo Yanez was acquitted of all charges last Friday in the fatal shooting of Philando Castile. Yanez testified that he feared that Castile was reaching for the gun that he verbally acknowledged to the officer that he was carrying with him, but Castile’s girlfriend – also present in the vehicle – who livestreamed the aftermath, claimed that he was simply reaching for his license and registration.

The acquittal has reignited claims that justice has not been served, but newly released dash cam footage that includes the dialogue up to the shooting has instilled a reasonable doubt in many people post-trial.

Georgia Special Election

Republican Karen Handel won the Georgia congressional election on Tuesday in a close race between heavily-funded opponent Democrat Jon Ossoff. Handel won by 5 percent in an election that many thought would be closer and a possible win for Democrats.

Ossoff came under fire for having raised more money in California than he did in Georgia. According to Mercury News, Ossoff “reported receiving $456,296.03 from California — and $220,532.10 from the Bay Area — versus just $228,474.44 from Georgia.” Ossoff’s $23 million total raised blew Handel’s $4 million out of the water, but she won anyway.

London Terror Attack

A man slammed a van into a crowd of Muslim worshippers in London on Sunday, killing 1 and injuring 10 more, after midnight Ramadan prayers.

The attack has been labeled a hate crime by many against the Muslim population. Europe, especially Britain, has been the brunt of many terror attacks recently, which has increased the calls for more border control and separation from the EU in order to protect from possible radical Islamic terrorism.

The attacker has been taken into custody and charged with terrorism-related murder.

That’s all for this week. Check back next Friday for the weekly news, in case you missed it.
