WASHINGTON, D.C. — In his long-anticipated Martin Luther King, Jr. Day address, President Trump warned not to judge people “based on their color, or their hair, or where they come from, or how big a loan they got from their daddy, or even where they purchased their wife.”
Trump’s speech was off to a good start, but critics say it soon diverged from what the day is supposed to symbolize. Trump tried to espouse MLK, saying “I have a dream, that one day white people and orange people will live together in harmony, while the Mexican people watch through cracks in the wall.”
In his speech, Trump claimed he often resonates with MLK. “This man was unfairly discriminated against because of his color, or his hairstyle, or his affairs, as I have been. He was locked up in jail, just like I’ve been forced to live in a 200 year old dump called the White House. He marched in Selma, I have to walk two blocks to McDonalds some days. People who don’t know me are so mean to me just because I want to deport their relatives. Honestly, I think I have it worse than this LMK guy.”
After being asked by reporters if he even knows what MLK did, Trump answered, “he’s so incredible for giving us this day off and I hope I get to meet him one day.”
