Presumable nominee for the Democratic Party, Hillary Clinton has officially picked Virginia senator Tim Kaine as her running mate for the November election.
Kaine was the Governor of Virginia from 2006–2010 and has been serving as the junior United States Senator from Virginia since 2012.
A moderate Democrat, Kaine is also fluent in Spanish, a proponent of the North American Free Trade Agreement and a supporter of the Trans-Pacific Partnership. The Senator offers Clinton a clear swing state in Virginia should give her significant traction in the American South.
Other vice presidential picks which the former Secretary of State was apparently considering included Massachusetts senator Elizabeth Warren, New Jersey senator Cory Booker, Secretary of Agriculture Tom Vilsack and Secretary of Housing and Urban Development Julian Castro.
