Jill Stein, Green Party presidential candidate, asserted on Sunday that she would not have had Osama Bin Laden assassinated in an interview before her first campaign rally in Iowa. These comments come on the 15th anniversary of the terror attacks on the World Trade Center and the Pentagon, as well as a failed attempt to hit the White House, on September 11th, 2001. These horrific attacks resulted in a total 0f 2,996 lives lost.
Stein says she believes that “assassinations … they’re against international law to start with and to that effect, I think I would not have assassinated Osama Bin Laden but would have captured him and brought him to trial.”
Bin Laden, the founder of Al-Qaeda, was killed by U.S. special forces in 2011, an operation ordered by the Obama administration.
Jill Stein elaborated in saying that the 9/11 attacks provided a basis for starting the “wrong wars, which have only gotten us into more trouble.” Stein said that we should avoid large scale wars, and take a targeted approach to finding terrorists and bringing them to legal justice, not assassination.
She then questioned the nature of the 9/11 attacks and their origin by saying “I think all evidence certainly points to Bin Laden, but the 9/11 attackers had assistance and funding and Bin Laden had assistance and funding,” and then went further to criticize America for arming factions in the Middle East, which – she posits – created the further turmoil in the region and across the globe, and rise of terrorism.
Stein still has an arrest warrant out for her for vandalizing a bulldozer in North Dakota at a construction site for the Dakota Access pipeline.
