Joe Biden made his intentions a little bit stronger this week when asked at a book signing about seeking the presidency in 2020. He stated that his family will help him decide whether he should run and stated that he is the most qualified candidate and that the country cannot afford four more years of Donald Trump. What this really means is that yes, he is definitely planning on running on the Democratic ticket; and if he were to win that nomination, the country would be in for one entertaining, gaffe-filled, free-flying, word-slinging production of a campaign like we might never have seen before.
During the interview, Biden admitted that he is a “gaffe machine”. It’s a bold admission and he stated that it is because he is “honest”. In other words, he desires to style himself as the Democrat version of Trump. Some brutally honest talk could be refreshing, but it also includes a lot of gaffes, and, although the US would benefit most from neither of the two winning the presidency, at the very least, the world could be entertained with two gaffe machines giving us all plenty of fodder. I might not like Biden at all as a candidate, but he’s the sort of guy I’d like being around for laughs. And, Trump might not be the at the very top of my list of people I’d like in his position, I do very much enjoy his free-form of speech.
We all need some good laughs, and for those of us outside of the two main tribes of US political thought, a campaign full of PC free speech and insults hurled back and forth would be an awful lot of fun. Libertarians rarely get political wins, so two people pointing out the flaws of both sides in what would be a highly comical and almost stand-up comedy sort of form would be highly enjoyable and make the overall election more uplifting and less deflating. I personally pray for this matchup of the two sides making cartoons out of one another and themselves. It’d be like a verbal Wily Coyote assault on the Roadrunner republic.
Please Democrats – I am on my knees begging you – for the sake of all entertainment value, let’s make this happen. Give us Joe Biden alongside Ocasio-Cortez as a gift to your fellow country-men (and the world) so that we can gain some much needed levity out of politics, albeit at the expense of your own party (but also the GOP).
