  • The 116th Congress of the United States was sworn in this week, with Nancy Pelosi, the well-known Democrat from California’s 12th District, chosen as Speaker of the House of Representatives.
  • Senator Elizabeth Warren recently announced that she was launching an exploratory committee for her eventual run for the presidency.
  • Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez announced her plans for a “Green New Deal”, which would include many environmental and economic incentives, but come with the request of a nearly 70% federal income tax for some earners.
