Slipped the Surly Bonds of Earth

It is with low-spirits that Being Libertarian announces the passing of one of our own, Luke Garrison.

Luke was a principled libertarian who wrote with wit and sagacity, a true treasure of the liberty movement.

At a time when the world so desperately needs men of principle, intellect, and passion, Luke’s passing is an even greater loss. He never shirked from the responsibility to change the world and make it a better place and he was a blessing to those around him.

As his presidential hero once remarked, Luke “slipped the surly bonds of Earth, to touch the face of God” and, in my ignorant judgment, this happened much too soon.

In his early 20s, he was a dedicated family man, who spoke highly of his fiancé and his love for his daughter. Having recently graduated with a bachelor’s degree pre-law and psychology, he was accepted into law school.

As a true renaissance man, in addition to his political and legal acumen, Luke was a classically-trained baritone, singer, and actor – who loved to perform. His love of Les Miserables didn’t subside with each occasion, it only intensified.

Les Miserables ends with a rendition of “Do You Hear the People Sing,” a song about revolutionaries with an indomitable strive for liberty.

Luke’s heart echoed with theirs, with the beating of the drum marching toward freedom.

Having taken up their fight in the 21st century, it is with the sadness of those who loved him that Luke joins the ranks of the indomitable, the passionate, and the great revolutionaries who came before him.

… Godspeed in the undiscovered country.
