Oprah had an empowering speech at the Golden Globes.
I thought she had a sincere and positive message for women in general and women minorities. Moreover, unlike prominent Democratic politicians, she’s actually a philanthropist with her wealth and one of the most charitable celebrities. She seems to genuinely care about the underprivileged.
This being said, the extent of the power that she appears to be flirting with can be dangerous in the wrong hands, and the wrong hands don’t simply entail malicious intent.
As Obama was falling to Hillary Clinton in the polls during his 2007 primary campaign, Oprah resurrected his presidential hopes by campaigning alongside him. This was done in spite of the fact that he had no economic acumen, which translated into his presidential record seeing a major increase in poverty and the wealth gap.
Neither Obama nor Bush 43 had meaningful insights into foreign policy. Terrorism grew at a rapid pace under Bush and then reached new levels under Obama.
I am not of the opinion that either Bush or Obama are unintelligent individuals. They did, however, possess a quality that makes one unfit to be an effective leader – hubris.
They had the false pride to believe their leadership, in the absence of preparation, was effective to the point of leading the world’s most powerful military and economy. Pride is the central element in ancient tragedies for a reason; it’s the cause of every fall from grace.
During Obama’s initial campaign Oprah gave several speeches for him, in which she bragged about focusing on American Idol rather than politics.
She reiterated rhetoric that was not only devoid of substance, it was contrary to sound policy. She called for political solutions as demonstrably disastrous as a redistribution of wealth.
Only pride would tempt her into thinking she’s qualified to lead the executive branch of the U.S. government.
There is a further concern: She continued to praise Obama even after it was clear his presidency was a failure.
He carried out one of the most callous foreign policies in the history of the U.S. – killing children, using starvation as a weapon of war, and partnering with misogynist terrorists, that hatred for America exploded to the point of a facile rise for al-Qaeda and ISIS; and Oprah still views Obama as a success.
This is not a good time to have this level of lacking discernment in the White House. America’s debt has reached over $20 trillion. With rising interest rates, this has the potential to cripple the entire world economy, and bankrupt the US treasury. Obama failed to take action, Trump is failing as we speak; the next President cannot afford to overlook this, but I’ve seen nothing that suggests this monumental issue is on Oprah’s radar.
These are precarious times for the world. We stand at the forefront of disaster or greatness.
Poverty is being exterminated but at the same time environmental calamity is looming. As the West turns a blind eye to its war crimes, hatred for NATO is growing at the same pace as our detractors are working toward apocalyptic weaponry.
This is juxtaposed against a counter-revolution in Iran, terrorist financing being outed in the GCC, and more defectors than ever fleeing North Korea.
Now is not the time for a president lacking discernment and insight.
