I don’t like Donald Trump. I’m not very impressed with his business acumen and I don’t agree with a vast majority of the things he says. He’s childish, bombastic, and xenophobic. I think he’d make a lousy president so I won’t vote for him myself and I won’t encourage others to vote for him. But, despite all of that I really want him to win.
It’s not that I want any particular policy that he’s advocated for to come to fruition. First off — and I know this may shock people — politicians don’t really follow through on their rhetoric once they’re in office. It’s all an act as far as I see it. Remember that George W. Bush ran his campaign on the idea that America wasn’t the world’s police and Barack Obama won his first campaign largely on ending his predecessor’s unconstitutional acts. How did those turn out? Trump wants to make America great again through various ambiguous means, but I don’t agree with his vision. That’s not why I want him to win.
I also don’t want him to win just because I want to see Hillary Clinton lose; although, that would be fantastic too. It’s unfathomable that someone with her history of criminal negligence and malfeasance is even in the running for president, much less favored to win, but here we are. She’s either incurably incompetent or the most corrupt creature to ever don pantsuits and I’m pretty sure she’s not incompetent. Hillary is awful, but what does that make someone who has been a big-time supporter of hers throughout her political career? Trump has donated to Hillary four (4) times? Trump’s opposition to Hillary now seems like an act perfected in his WWF days. That’s clearly not the reason I want Trump to win.
And it’s not because the long list of the undesirable Americans who have said they will leave the country if Trump wins. I think America would be a lot better off without the likes of Al Sharpton, Miley Cyrus, and George Lopez, but that’s not enough for me to want Trump in office.
I also don’t want a Trump victory because it would be a sign of the impending apocalypse and will usher in the end times. I’m not a masochist.
The real reason why I want to see Donald J. Trump win the presidency of the United States is how the electorate would react. We have a large swath of the population who think government is the savior of the universe and all mankind — that we wouldn’t have roads, healthcare, or the Internet without government. They think that we need more regulation, more taxes, and more government control over every industry. They want free healthcare, free college education, free birth control, and, of course the federal government is the only entity that can give it to them. And all the evils that government perpetrates in the name of those things are conveniently overlooked because they love their dear leader.
I want Trump to win because it will demonstrate to these people that government isn’t some benevolent faery handing out goodies like candy on Halloween. I want all these people to realize what government truly is: the cult of power — a monopoly of force. I want these liberals’ brains to melt in a tortuous cognitive dissonance like a protester demanding more government, then getting it in the form of 3.4 ounces of pepper spray in the mouth.
I’m already starting to see the light bulbs go off. Some of my pro-government friends are posting videos of how even Hitler rose to power democratically, making the analogy to Trump’s startling rise. They’re beginning to understand that if you grant the government a certain level of authority to get what you want, that authority can then be used for others to get what they want. They’re starting to see that everything the government gives to one person it has taken from someone else. They’re starting to realize that a government big enough to give you everything you want is big enough to take everything away and it will. And with the very real prospect of Trump taking the White House, they’re starting to see that a majority in favor of something doesn’t make it right — that government may seem great if your guy is in control, but when the wrong person gets all that authority, suddenly, it’s not so cute. They’re really worried about a Trump presidency — expressing outrage at Trump’s draconian, xenophobic rhetoric. Others are calling him tyrannical, fascist, and a warmonger.
That is great! I love it when people are critical of politicians.
But these people have never directed that passion toward the sitting president who has bombed more countries than did W. (seven to Bush’s four), prosecuted whistleblowers more, and is threatening preemptive war with Iran. The anti-war Left has been completely AWOL since Obama took office. I want them back!
Many have been outraged at Trump’s xenophobic comments, calling to end Muslim immigration and saying that, “The Mexican Government is forcing their most unwanted people into the United States. They are, in many cases, criminals, drug dealers, rapists.” But these people so worried about a racist president have given a pass to the racist Obama from his connection to racist, anti-Semitic Rev. Jeremiah Wright to just blatant anti-white rhetoric of his own. I despise racism. I want Trump to win so that everyone else will despise it again too.
People are worried that Trump will stifle free speech and ignore the First Amendment rights of political opposition. There’s already evidence of his authoritarian approach at his rallies, saying a heckler at one of his rallies maybe should have been “roughed up.” They say he must be stopped. But the very same people have given Obama a pass as he signed a bill making protesting a felony, co-sponsored an anti-free speech resolution at the United Nations, and actively supported the IRS in unfairly targeting opposition groups. America needs a President Trump so that the right to free speech is a thing again.
To be clear, I don’t think Trump is much different than Bush or Obama or Clinton for that matter. We’re on an obvious decline in legitimacy with regard to presidents, but neither of these people are orders of magnitude worse than the rest. They’re all big-government, socialists, and I don’t think Trump would be an improvement on that. But the reaction to Trump has been overwhelming. People on the Left will overlook all the flaws in Obama or Clinton but they see Trump as the paternalistic, Big Brother warmonger that he may truly be. That’s the type of skepticism we need from We the People.
I’m afraid our government is completely foregone regardless of who ends up in the White House. I want Trump to win so we can get our citizenry back.
