Why Libertarianism is a Positive Influence for Millennials

There are a myriad of political ideologies in this great nation. The two dominant ones are conservatism and progressivism. While conservatism has its merits, libertarianism has the most desirable influence, especially on millennials, as it promotes the ideals that are most crucial to success.

Millennials are individuals born between the years 1982 and 2004, according to The Atlantic. We are the leading generation, and it is important for us to have good values so that the world – but especially America – can thrive. Out of all doctrines, libertarianism is the most fruitful, beneficial, and humane.

The core values of libertarianism are freedom, personal responsibility, and small government. Libertarians believe that each individual has the right to govern themselves, as long as they don’t infringe upon the rights of others to do the same. If the millennial generation adopts this mindset as their creed, it will be greatly beneficial.

The problem with this country is that for too long we have had people with great power who were either unfit to possess it, or who became ruined by it. History has proven time and time again that power corrupts and ultimately leads to regimes such as communism, socialism, and fascism. The best way to run a country is to allow each individual to rule themselves and have a very small government in place should a situation arise when individuals begin to infringe upon the rights of others.

Libertarianism encourages civilians to ‘self govern.’ This is a necessary skill to possess, especially for those who are entering the adult world, as many millennials are. Self government promotes discipline and accountability. These ideals instill the mindset that one must look to themselves (not others or the government) for what they want in life. Prosperous people do not rely on others to take care of them or coddle them. The ability to self govern and self discipline is essential to any individual who craves success.

Unfortunately, statistics show that the majority of millennials are progressive. Most first time voters voted for Hillary Clinton over Donald Trump or Gary Johnson. Progressives have done a great job at getting their message across to the younger generation – via brainwashing – especially through our education system which contains teachers who mostly identify as left wing or ‘liberal’. The left frequently pushes the notion that if you don’t support them or their agenda, you’re “racist,” “bigoted,” or “sexist.” This is a classic case of indoctrination and it is highly dangerous when a group is only exposed to one ideology and never has anything else to compare it to because they are more likely to adopt that way of thinking.

It is critical that millennials abandon the insidious agenda of progressivism and begin to support ideals that promote success. It is a poison and the antithesis of individualism, growth, and progress. The wolf in sheep’s clothing is an ideal personification of progressivism. Too many young people have fallen victim to the progressive mindset and have suffered greatly from it. Libertarianism paves the way to success, fulfillment, and happiness.
