Libertarian presidential candidate Gary Johnson, had some kind words to offer potential first lady, Melania Trump after her highly controversial speech which she delivered in prime-time at the 2016 Republican National Convention.
Speaking with the Chicago Tribune’s editorial board, Johnson had this to say about the matter:
“Here’s what I make of it, and it’s a defense of Melania: She’s brought into this, make a few comments, Melania, make it from the heart and I don’t know what the circumstances are,” said Johnson, a former two-term Republican governor of New Mexico. “But maybe she got online and ‘what did Michelle do’ … or some staff did for her. Anyway, no stones cast on my part.”
The former two term New Mexico Governor continued:
“There will be others to do that. I’ll refrain. I just can see how it could happen,” he said, before starting to laugh. “Whoever did it, should have done a better job of paraphrasing as opposed to (using) just the exact lines.”
This defense comes after Melania Trump, the wife of Republican nominee, Donald Trump delivered a very controversial speech which has been criticized for sounding very similar to a speech that current First Lady, Michelle Obama made at the 2008 Democratic National Convention. However, many have blamed staffers on the Trump campaign for this mis-fire, rather than Melania Trump herself. Regardless of this, it was reported that the presidential campaign of Donald Trump have zero plans to fire anybody or to take disciplinary matters over the controversy surrounding Mrs. Trump’s alleged plagiarism of Michelle Obama’s 2008 speech.
