Hands down one of my favorite Broadway musicals ever had to be Bloody Bloody Andrew Jackson, the punk rock musical about America’s seventh president.
The theme of the play was the role of populism in elections and the overwhelming challenges and bad choices that could follow when someone is suddenly given a lot of power.
The main theme “Populism, yea yea” can be seen here. You can listen to the full song on Spotify.
It makes me think of the current GOP primaries, which are filled with sophomoric populist banter by the likes of Donald Trump and Ted Cruz.
Just figure, if you haven’t heard this song you would all find it amusing.
