In the wake of the Democratic National Committee email scandal that compelled Debbie Wasserman Schultz to resign from her position as party chairperson on the eve of the Democratic National Convention, three other DNC officials have been forced to follow suit. Democratic National Committee CEO Amy Dacey; chief finance officer Brad Marshall; and communications director Luis Miranda left their jobs on Tuesday in a statement put together by the DNC.
Marshall, was the one who had the most controversial email, questioning the the faith of former Democratic presidential candidate, Bernie Sanders, saying the following:
“… He had skated on saying he has a Jewish heritage. I think I read he is an atheist. This could make several points difference with my peeps. My Southern Baptist peeps would draw a big difference between a Jew and an atheist.”
Marshall has since apologized for the remark.
In the meantime, interim DNC chair, Donna Brazil, who has replaced the departing staffers with a “transition team” that includes Tom McMahon, a former DNC executive director, had this to say:
“This election is the most important of my lifetime, and the DNC will continue to recruit top talent to help lead the fight to elect Hillary Clinton and Democrats across the country. I am committed to adding to our team of skilled professionals who will make sure that Donald Trump is held accountable for his reckless rhetoric and harmful policies.”
